Nordic Ministerial Declaration on Commitment to Low Carbon Construction

21-11-2023

In September, the Nordic Ministers of Housing and Construction were gathered in Iceland. Here they recommitted to a common Nordic effort on reducing climate impact from construction and housing.

Since 2018, the Nordic countries have collaborated on lowering the climate and environmental impact of construction. The goal is to make the Nordic countries the most sustainable region in the world. Now, a new Nordic Declaration on low carbon construction and circular principles in the construction sector by the Nordic Ministers of Housing and Construction reconfirms this goal.

The declaration states the Nordic Ministers’ commitment to continue Nordic collaboration on lowering the climate impact and GHG emissions from buildings, waste, construction sites, building materials, the existing building stock and construction processes.

The declaration also reaffirms the Nordic Ministers’ wish to harmonise relevant legislation, tools, data, methods and policies regarding carbon neutrality in the built environment across the Nordics, following the principles of a recent roadmap developed by Nordic Sustainable Construction.

The Ministers relevant for Construction and Housing from Denmark, Sweden, Åland, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Greenland and Faroe Islands approve the declaration.
